Following are the major differences between our previous and Enhanced Canoe and Kayak Hoist versions:

1.) Our previous hoist design used sewn stainless steel pulley rings without a roller pulley. Although this proved to be a simple, strong, and reliable method, it added friction to the pulley system reducing it's effective mechanical advantage. It also prohibited users from storing canoes and kayaks within 14" from the ceiling in typical installations and in cases of operation from extreme angles has caused the twisting and/or jamming of the strap and pulley rings.
In the enhanced design we have replaced the sewn pulley rings with a precisely machined aluminum pulley block with stainless steel rivets and put larger diameter roller wheels on the pulleys. Although the previous version provided more than adequate mechanical advantage, this enhancement reduces the friction in typical installations by nearly 50% resulting in much easier lifting. It also provides storage in less than 7" from the ceiling in typical installations.

2.) The previous version was simple to install with only one hole to be drilled and one lag eye bolt to be threaded into the ceiling for each end of the hoist.
The enhanced design continues this simplicity with the requirement of one predrilled hole and the threading of one lag screw per side.

3.) Our previous version had a fixed handle length which could become out of reach of during use.
The enhanced version has an adjustment mechanism so that the handle can be set to hang down any distance from the ceiling for more versatility.

4.) Our previous hull cradle straps (optional and sold separately from the hoist) provided great support around the hull with our strong 1" nylon strap and a safety preventer stitch at the strap end to prevent accidental release/droppage of a stored kayak.
The enhanced hull cradle design uses the same strong 1" nylon strap but adds a 2" wide, double layer strap sleeve for broader hull support. It also adds a tri glide buckle for semi-permanent strap length adjustment, buckle redundancy, and cleaner storage of the excess strap length at the ends.

5.) Our previous products were produced in a way that made it difficult to replace individual components if they became damaged.
The enhanced versions are produced using a method that allows the replacement of individual components (though it should never be necessary to do so!).

The only installation where the previous version may be desirable would be in installations on very uneven ceilings (for example on a slanted A-Frame structure). Please call or email us for more information about the previous versions or to place an order for them.
